Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti, one of classical music’s fast-rising stars, visited The Greene Space recently to give her only New York concert of the season in a live broadcast for WQXR.
Benedetti gave a pre-Oscars performance of repertoire from “The Silver Violin,” her new album celebrating film music of composers from the 1930s to today. Host Jeff Spurgeon asked Benedetti about the process of recording music that so many audiences deeply associate with their films.
“I tried to approach it from a purely musical standpoint,” Benedetti said. “It was a case of me trying to hear every piece, not in the context of a film, [but] to hear it in its purest form and make sure that it stood alone.”
Watch Benedetti’s performance of “Por Una Cabeza” from the movie, “Scent of a Woman.”
