StoryCorps’ Dave Isay Talks the American Workforce and ‘Callings’

Friday March 29 2024 • 4:37am - 4:37am ET

StoryCorps founder and author Dave Isay talks with The Takeaway host John Hockenberry

Since opening its first recording booth in Grand Central Terminal in 2003, StoryCorps has recorded more than 60,000 conversations between family members, friends and even strangers—a ground-breaking oral history project heard by millions of listeners every Friday on NPR’s Morning Edition.

Founder Dave Isay has written several books inspired by the project, whose mission is this: to remind us of our shared humanity.

Isay joined us live in a sold-out conversation with WNYC’s The Takeaway host John Hockenberry on April 20. They talked about StoryCorps’ history, its future and his latest book, Callings: The Purpose and Passion of Work.

A collection of inspiring stories from the heart of the American workforce, Callings is a tribute to the passion, determination, and courage it takes to pursue the work we feel called to do.
