Starchild & The New Romantic Album Release Party

Originally Aired: Friday, March 9, 2018

Starchild

Overview

Celebrate the hotly anticipated debut album of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Bryndon Cook, aka Starchild, who performs his funk, R&B, and electro-spanning Language which comes out February 23 on Ghostly International. The show is hosted by New Sounds‘ Helga Davis.

Named in 2016 to Rolling Stones’ 25 under 25 list for his EP Crucial, Cook had been most known as versatile collaborator and touring musician to such artists as Solange and Blood Orange. Now he is poised to step into the limelight with his band as Starchild & The New Romantic, with a powerful creative voice that might owe its lineage to a range of musicians from Duke Ellington and Prince to Janet Jackson and Laurie Anderson, but is all his own.

Cook’s debut is an expression of dissipated love, of finding meaning in dark times and beauty through pain. As he explains, “I always appreciated music that lent a helping hand and said, ‘Hey, are you with me? Because I am with you.'” With Language, Cook offers his listeners the first fully-fledged glimpse into his dynamism and sensitivity, his experience of heartbreak and transcendence, and an unapologetic voice that’s just getting going.
