Kronos Quartet, one of the most renowned and influential new-music groups of our time, celebrated its 40th anniversary with an exclusive evening of music and conversation in The Greene Space on March 24.
For four decades, the quartet — David Harrington, John Sherba (violins), Hank Dutt (viola), and Sunny Yang (cello) — has pursued a singular artistic vision, combining a spirit of fearless exploration with a commitment to re-imagining the string quartet experience. Kronos has performed thousands of concerts worldwide, collaborating with many of the world’s most intriguing and accomplished composers and performers, releasing more than 50 recordings of extraordinary breadth and creativity, and commissioning more than 800 works and arrangements for string quartet.
Hosted by Q2 Music’s Helga Davis, the event was the culmination of a 24-hour marathon of the quartet’s music on Q2 and focused on some of the ensemble’s current repertoire, including the newest Under 30 Commission.
