This election season, what issues are at the forefront of women’s minds and which policies are affecting them in ways that never get talked about? Is it even accurate to continue talking about women as a monolithic voting bloc?
Keli Goff, Daily Beast columnist and host of WNYC’s monthly live series, Political Party with Keli Goff, dug deep into these questions during a conversation recorded at The Greene Space last night. Her guests were Vanessa De Luca, editor-in-chief at Essence, Emily Shire, politics editor of Bustle.com, Penny Nance, president at Concerned Women for America, writer Liz O’Donnell and Cosmo Latina founding editor Michelle Mulligan.
“It’s interesting that things are touted as ‘women’s issues’ as if there’s something wrong with appealing to what women care about,” said De Luca. “We should all care about what women care about, because when women thrive our whole communities thrive, particularly in the black community.”
