Groundbreaking poet and playwright Sonia Sanchez opened The Greene Space’s reading of “The Piano Lesson” on Sept. 9, 2013 with her reflections on playwright August Wilson and his legacy.
“[Wilson] heard the sacred in all of our footprints,” Sanchez said, “as he reset the identity of African-Americans on the world’s stage from tragedy and neglect and prejudice to the heroic celebration of themselves.”
