PEN World Voices: Queer Futures

Saturday April 20 2024 • 6:30am - 6:30am ET

Visual activist Zanele Muholi live in The Greene Space for the PEN World Voices Festival

The burgeoning African gay rights movement is filled with brave artists and activists. As part of the 2015 PEN World Voices Festival, three prominent African writers joined us in conversation on May 6 to survey today’s landscape and challenge preconceived ideas about the broadened role of literature in this historic struggle for human rights.

Shireen Hassim, author and professor of political studies at the University of the Witwatersrand, moderated the discussion with Binyavanga WainainaZanele Muholi and Kehinde Bademosi.
