Behind August Wilson’s American Century Cycle

Monday October 7 2024 • 5:17pm - 5:17pm ET

Our historic series, August Wilson’s American Century Cycle, marks the first time an organization has been granted rights to record all 10 of the playwright’s works chronicling African American life in the 20th century. Hear from some of the longtime Wilson collaborators and interpreters who’ll join us on this project.

Below, the series’ Artistic Director, Ruben Santiago-Hudson talks about preserving Wilson’s legacy; Associate Director Stephen McKinley Henderson describes Wilson’s cultural achievement; director Michele Shay talks about the power of hearing all 10 of Wilson’s plays together; and director Phylicia Rashad describes how sound and speech play important roles in Wilson’s works.
