2013: A Year in The Greene Space

Friday November 22 2024 • 11:21am - 11:21am ET

We say it’s a big world in here at The Greene Space, and 2013 didn’t disappoint.

Our friends at On the Media brought us funny, insightful conversations with The Daily Show‘s Aasif Mandvi and Tony Award-winner Cyndi Lauper. Soundcheck brought us high-energy performances by José James, Talib Kweli and Robert Randolph and the Family Band. WNYC’s Leonard Lopate was back with his Lopate and Locavores food series, Brian Lehrer convened a panel of experts to talk climate change and New Tech City’s Manoush Zomorodi showed us how to kick digital butt in a 21st century workplace.

In the world of classic music, WQXR presented the Metropolitan Opera National Council Award winners, a two-part Bach lounge and exclusive performances by violinist Nicola Benedetti, pianist András Schiff and violinist Joshua Bell.

The year also saw the return of our Battle of the Boroughs emerging talent quest, the launch of our conversation series exploring the legacy of the Emancipation Proclamation on its 150th anniversary and our historic festival, August Wilson’s American Century Cycle.
