Theater of War Productions: Prometheus in Prison

Presented by Theater of War Productions and The Greene Space at WNYC

Wednesday June 13 2018 • 7:00pm - 9:00pm ET
In-person event

Overview

Join us for a dramatic theatrical reading of Aeschylus’ Prometheus Bound, a play that sheds light on the challenges faced by people who have been incarcerated, on probation or on parole, or who have worked in correctional settings.

Featuring a cast of acclaimed film and theater actors Ato Essandoh, Kathryn ErbeChinasa Ogbuagu, and Zach Grenier. This project has been presented at various forums and correctional facilities worldwide, including the detention camps of Guantanamo Bay. It is a project of Theater of War Productions, which presents community-specific, theater-based projects that address pressing public health and social issues.

A conversation about the lasting impact of incarceration on individuals, families and communities will follow the performance.

Free Monthly Performances

This is part of a six-event partnership between Theater of War Productions and The Greene Space at WNYC to present free monthly readings through June 2018 by notable actors. The performances will spark conversations around public health and social issues such as gun violence, war, mental health, incarceration, the failure of the legal system and substance abuse.

This project was developed by artistic director Bryan Doerries, now in his second year as New York City Public Artist in Residence with the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and Department of Veterans’ Services. During this two-year residency, he will bring more than 60 such productions to diverse communities across all five boroughs.
