Join Dan Pashman, host of WNYC’s The Sporkful, at this live podcast taping with actress Rosie Perez, artist Ashok Kondabolu (aka Dapwell), comedian Michelle Buteau and cookbook authors Chitra Agrawal and Nicole Taylor.
Is a burrito filled with sushi (like San Francisco’s “Sushirrito”) a beautiful symbol of the American melting pot or an offensive bastardization of two proud cuisines? When is it appropriate for chefs to cook food from a culture they weren’t born into? How do our assumptions about people affect our assumptions of their food? And how do their assumptions about our food affect how we feel about ourselves?
The Sporkful will tackle these questions and more in this kick-off to their podcast series, “Other People’s Food.”

About the Guests
Rosie Perez is an Academy Award-nominated actress and Emmy Award-nominated choreographer known for her work in Do The Right Thing, In Living Color, and White Men Can’t Jump, among other roles.
Comedian/host/actress Michelle Buteau brings her unique perspective and big personality to stage and screen. Her half-hour comedy special premiered on Comedy Central last September, and her album, SHUT UP!, is now available on iTunes.
Ashok Kondabalou (aka Dap) is a founding member of seminal rap group Das Racist, creator of arts collective Chillin’ Island, and food columnist for VICE.
Chitra Agrawal is the co-owner of Brooklyn Delhi, an award-winning Indian condiments line, and author of the popular recipe blog The ABCDs of Cooking. Her South Indian vegetarian cookbook will be out next year from Penguin Random House.
Nicole Taylor hosts Hot Grease, a food culture podcast, and is the author of The Up South Cookbook, a collection of classic Southern recipes informed and updated by the ingredients cultures of Brooklyn.
