The Invisible Man

Overview

As the first theatrical collaboration between The Greene Space and the Yorinks Theater Group, Arthur Yorinks, writer and director, has extracted the title character from The Invisible Man, the novella by H.G. Wells, and has written a searing hybrid of naturalistic drama and stark surrealism.

The Invisible Man takes place during one evening in a contemporary New York City homeless shelter. The play, in its minimalist fashion, speaks to not only the timely subject of homelessness and abandonment, but to the timeless and tragic existential human condition of invisibility. These subjects and more will be a part of special post-show dialogues with The Invisible Man artistic team, WNYC radio hosts, the actors and noted New Yorkers.

A collage of sound, live voices and sound effects is joined by a never-before-heard original piano score composed and improvised by Michael Riesman, director of the Philip Glass Ensemble, in a rare live musical performance. Lighting, video and conceptual design are by Mark Stanley, resident lighting designer for The New York City Ballet. Arthur Yorinks directs.

Arthur Yorinks has written and directed over 25 audio plays for the Kennedy Center and other venues around the country.

Please note, The Invisible Man contains strong language and brief nudity.
