Overview

Alison Stewart, host of WNYC’s All Of It, continues her virtual book club series with Anna Sale, host of the WNYC Studios podcast Death, Sex & Money. In her new book, Let’s Talk About Hard Things, Anna draws us a conversational roadmap to show that discussing difficult topics in a frank and honest way can alleviate feelings of sadness, confusion, and isolation. Gathering all the wisdom she’s gathered from years of working on her podcast and serving as New York City’s “therapist at happy hour” (New York Times), Anna masterfully guides us through five of the most fraught conversation topics we’ll ever have to face: death, sex, money, family, and identity.

We’ll also have a performance from musical guest Mary Gauthier. Gauthier is a singer/songwriter who has received praise for transforming trauma into art. Her most recent album, 2018’s Grammy-nominated Rifles & Rosary Beads, was co-written with U.S. veterans and their families to tell their stories. In July, she’ll publish the memoir, Saved by a Song: The Art and Healing Power of Songwriting, her first book.
