Soprano Nadine Sierra

Overview

Soprano Nadine Sierra is being hailed as “the new face of opera” (NYLON) and one of the most promising young talents in opera today. Her combination of vocal beauty, seamless technique, and abundant musicality have made her a fixture at many of the world’s top opera houses, including The Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Opéra national de Paris, and Staatsoper Berlin. In 2017 she received the prestigious Richard Tucker Award and the Met honored her with the Beverly Sills Artist Award in 2018.

Sierra’s debut album, There’s a Place for Us, is a reflection of America’s history as a refuge for all, and features music by Leonard Bernstein and émigrés Igor Stravinsky and Osvaldo Golijov, as well as songs from Heitor Villa-Lobos in homage to Sierra’s Portuguese roots. To celebrate the album’s release, WQXR presents Nadine Sierra at The Greene Space for an exclusive performance and conversation. She’ll sing selections from the new album, as well as some of her favorite arias, accompanied by pianist Bryan Wagorn, Assistant Conductor at The Metropolitan Opera.

WQXR’s Clemency Burton-Hill hosts.
