Watch a live video stream of an intimate conversation with legendary actor Phylicia Rashad and rising sensation Miriam A. Hyman in advance of their performance in WNYC’s special presentation of William Shakespeare’s Richard II, in collaboration with The Public Theater.
The four-part serialized broadcast will air from July 13 to 16, preserving the beloved summer tradition of Free Shakespeare in the Park even as audiences aren’t able to gather at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, listeners across New York City and the country can tune in to this year’s audio production, directed by Saheem Ali and featuring over 25 actors.
Join us for this conversation, hosted by journalist Angélique Roché.
Watch a live video stream on this page at 7pm ET.
Richard II chronicles a leader who is pushed out of power and questions his own morality. Each night of radio features the play, along with contextual commentary to bring the listener closer to the narrative action and put the play in contemporary context, exploring topics like race and gender within Shakespeare. The production of the play is taking place as our country — and our world — reckons with the aftershocks of George Floyd’s murder and the protests it catalyzed.
