Overview
Acclaimed for his performances of the leading bel canto tenor roles of Rossini, Donizetti and Bellini, as well as Verdi, Puccini, Gluck, and Mozart, Flórez now tackles the French repertoire in his new CD L’Amour, his first solo album in four years. He’ll perform arias from the album, and he’ll talk with Operavore’s Naomi Lewin about what it’s like to be the Prince Charming to Joyce DiDonato’s Cinderella in The Metropolitan Opera’s performances of Rossini’s La Cenerentola.
Says The Observer (London) of Flórez, “This captivating Peruvian has a generosity and eagerness, a lack of the wrong sort of ego and a seriousness about his art. His joy and sense of risk are infectious. He doesn’t do ‘cool’. All these factors set him apart.”
