Overview
Building on last year’s sold-out event, the New York Guitar Festival and WNYC’s New Sounds present a four-week series that features a diverse cast of guitar slingers performing newly commissioned works and special collaborations.
The festival will take over The Greene Space stage every Thursday evening, from May 18 to June 8, featuring multiple short sets and onstage interviews.
New Sounds’ John Schaefer hosts an evening with Margaret Glaspy, whose sharp-edged indie rock has been described by Pitchfork as “a collection of compact grunge-rock and breezy torch songs that variously recall Elliott Smith and Joni Mitchell.” And Julian Lage, one of the most formidable jazz guitarists of his generation (he was the subject of a documentary in 1997 at the age of 8), will bring his famous Linda Manzer Blue Note Archtop guitar. The highlight of this event is likely to be the two guitarists performing a set of works together.
